If you’re contemplating a facelift, you may have some concerns about what to expect with the procedure. Facelifts are ideal for anyone who is unhappy with their appearance due to aging, trauma, or other reasons. Use the following information to learn some important preoperative and postoperative considerations to better prepare for your procedure and ensure the swiftest recovery.
Types of Facelift
Dr. Herschcovitch offers the following types of facelifts in addition to rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and alternative nonsurgical cosmetic enhancement procedures at his medical boutique clinic in California. Ideal facelift candidates are physically healthy, nonsmokers, and willing to stick with the care plan until recovery is complete and medically cleared.
Traditional Facelift – Dr. Hershcovitch has performed countless facelift surgeries utilizing SMAS, deep plane, and other advanced surgical practices to address the signs of aging safely in the most effective, subtle, and natural manner. He also minimizes scar tissue development with tensionless re-draping techniques to naturally add fullness to the face to shorten patient recovery time.
Mini facelift – The procedure is suitable for candidates who want the perks and results of a facelift, without the invasiveness, risks, or long incisions of a traditional facelift. The procedure eliminates lower facial sagging and puffiness, especially in the jaw, cheeks, and neck areas. Because there are smaller and fewer incisions and less tissue manipulation, patients recover faster, have less scarring and enjoy a more organically, subtle, and youthful appearance.
Revision Facelift – Facial revisions are reserved for patients who are not satisfied with the work of a previous surgeon, or whose results did not last as long as desired or expected. Dr. Herschcovitch routinely performs facelift revisions to reverse the effects of unappealing scars, aging, cobra neck, hollow eyes, pixie ear, and other facial imperfections so patients end up with the younger and favorable results they desire.
Liquid Facelift – A liquid facelift is a safe and highly effective antiaging treatment that doesn’t involve surgery. Dr. Hershcovitch uses dermal fillers to smooth and soften the contours of the face to erase the effects of time and aging. The procedure is also safe and discreet. For men who want to lift sagging facial skin without the hassle of surgery, Dr. Hershcovitch uses special techniques to provide chiseled and masculine features.
Preparing for a Facelift
Every facelift surgery is unique. Though you may have certain issues you want to address with the procedure, Dr. Herschcovitch is more than happy to discuss your situation. It is important to have realistic expectations about what to expect and how to prepare for your experience. Prior to the procedure, be sure to provide your complete medical and medication history, including names and dosages of current supplements, vitamins, remedies, etc.
The following suggestions are recommended:
Stop smoking: Smoking increases the risk of complications and bleeding and clotting disorders and can impede your recovery time and cause less than desirable results.
Get in shape: Start a healthy diet and exercise regimen now if you aren’t currently following one.
Get plenty of rest: Start physically preparing your body by getting more rest in the days and weeks leading up to the procedure. Your body heals and repairs itself when you’re asleep. Getting more rest ahead of your facelift can help bolster your body’s healing capacity so you can recover faster.
Follow all preoperative care instructions provided by Dr. Hershcovitch within the recommended timeline.
What to Expect After a Facelift?
After your procedure, you should expect to spend the next few weeks recovering as the results of your facelift continue to develop.
Before discharge home, schedule a follow-up visit with Dr. H. so he can monitor your facelift results and address any concerns you may have. The follow-up appointment generally takes place within the first week or two after your procedure.
Rest as often as you feel the need to but avoid overexertion. The first week in recovery is when swelling and discomfort from the procedure tend to peak before gradually resolving over the next several weeks. As the swelling and discoloration disappear, you’ll notice subtle changes in your appearance. Many facelift patients notice their results sooner than expected.
By the end of the first week or so, you may notice you have more energy and feel more confident about your appearance. You may also experience some weird sensations on your face, such as tightness, numbness, or tingling. These symptoms are normal and are usually no cause for alarm. The sensations will gradually disappear on their own.
Depending on the type of facelift you have done, you may notice there is some residual soreness, discoloration, or swelling near the incisions that lingers for several weeks. The one-month mark is when most facelift patients see a considerable change in their appearance because their features and results are more defined. This is also around the time patients safely resume their normal activities. Most of the physical signs of the procedure are gone.
Complete healing from the facelift can take up to one year, during that time, your results will continue to develop and last for up to 10 years. Repeat visits are recommended to stave off the future effects of aging and preserve the original procedure’s results.
